Learning in the middle school at Hinds School:

A similar timetable is kept across the year 1 - 3 classes at Hinds. Ā konga begin their day with maths following the NZ curriculum with support from Oxford maths teaching materials.

Te reo Māori is incorporated into our teaching instruction throughout the day, alongside explicit teaching of te reo. Our teachers are encouraged and supported to improve their te reo skills through external courses and staff meeting workshops.

Lessons in the core learning areas of maths and English are taught through a mix of whole class and small flexible groups, based on the needs of ākonga. 

Class Inquiries are linked to core curriculum subjects to foster rich learning opportunities. Our rich concept across the school this year is "Relationships" and offers our students to investigate this concept across the learning areas of the arts, social sciences and science. 

We foster independence through our Hinds School Dispositions of Grit, Grounded, Thinking, and Joining Forces as our students grow into learners who know themselves and can make positive choices around how they learn and interact with others.
